Ingredients

1 large round of Brie cheese

1 large whole wheat or rustic flatbread

2 ripe pears, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (plus extra for garnish)

1 tablespoon balsamic glaze

1 tablespoon honey

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: Chopped walnuts or pecans for added crunch

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking.

Caramelize the Pears: In a large skillet heated over medium heat, add the unsalted butter and allow it to melt completely. Once melted, incorporate the thinly sliced pears and sprinkle the brown sugar over them. Cook the pears gently, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften and take on a caramelized color (approximately 5-7 minutes). Once softened, add the fresh thyme leaves and a pinch of salt and pepper to enhance the flavor. Remove the skillet from heat and set it aside.

Prepare the Flatbread: Take the flatbread and place it onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.

Assemble the Flatbread: If you choose, slice the Brie cheese in half horizontally; otherwise, you can leave it whole for a more dramatic presentation. Position the Brie at the center of the flatbread. Evenly distribute the caramelized pears on top of the Brie. Drizzle the balsamic glaze and honey over the pears, and if desired, sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans across the top for an added crunchy texture.

Bake: Place the assembled flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes. You're looking for the cheese to become gooey and warm, while the edges of the flatbread should turn a lovely golden crisp.

Serve and Garnish: Once baked to perfection, carefully remove the flatbread from the oven. Allow it to cool for about a minute, then garnish with additional fresh thyme leaves for a pop of color. Slice the flatbread into wedges and serve while warm for the best experience.
