Ingredients

1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend for optimal juiciness)

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

4 slices of cheddar cheese (or cheese of your choice)

4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche or sesame seed)

Lettuce leaves

1 large tomato, sliced

Dill pickles (sliced or whole, based on preference)

Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise (to taste)

Optional: sliced red onion and avocado

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Using your hands, mix gently until all ingredients are just combined—avoid overmixing to maintain tenderness.

Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions (approximately 6 ounces each). Shape each portion into a patty, ensuring they are slightly wider than your buns, as they will contract while cooking. To promote even cooking, create a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb.

Preheat the Grill or Pan: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or heat a cast-iron skillet on medium-high. If using the skillet, lightly grease it with cooking spray or a dash of oil to prevent sticking.

Cook the Patties: Carefully place the patties onto the hot surface of your grill or skillet. Cook for approximately 4-5 minutes on one side without pressing down to retain juiciness. Flip the patties and continue cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare (target internal temperature should be 130°F). Adjust cooking time according to your desired doneness.

Add Cheese: About 1 minute before the burgers are finished cooking, place a slice of cheese atop each patty. If grilling, close the lid; if using a skillet, cover it with a lid. This will help the cheese melt perfectly.

Toast the Buns: While the cheese melts, toast the hamburger buns either on the grill or in a toaster until they’re lightly browned and crispy.

Assemble the Burgers: Begin with the bottom half of the bun, adding a generous layer of lettuce. Next, place the cheesy burger patty on top, followed by slices of tomato, pickles, and any optional toppings like red onion and avocado. Finally, spread your choice of condiments over the top bun.

Serve: Cap the burgers with the top bun and serve immediately while hot. These burgers are excellent paired with crispy fries or a fresh garden salad!

Presentation Tips: For an enticing presentation, serve the burgers on a rustic wooden board accompanied by a side of colorful fries or a vibrant salad. Add a small bowl of condiments for dipping!
