Ingredients

1 package (12 oz) refrigerated cheese ravioli

2 cups marinara sauce

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated parmesan cheese

½ cup shredded fontina cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (a blend of oregano, basil, and thyme)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Olive oil, for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This will ensure it’s hot and ready for baking when your casserole is assembled.

Prepare the Baking Dish: Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with olive oil. This will help prevent the casserole from sticking as it bakes.

Cook the Ravioli: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Carefully add the refrigerated cheese ravioli and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 3-5 minutes, or until they are tender and al dente. Once cooked, drain and set aside.

Make the Cheese Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, ½ cup of the shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan, shredded fontina, garlic powder, and dried Italian herbs. Season with salt and pepper. Mix everything together until the ingredients are well incorporated.

Layer the Casserole: Begin by spreading a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of your prepared baking dish. Place half of the cooked ravioli on top of the sauce. Next, spoon half of the cheese mixture over the ravioli, followed by another layer of marinara sauce. Repeat these layers with the remaining ravioli, cheese mixture, and finish with another layer of marinara sauce.

Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the casserole, ensuring it covers the entire surface for a delicious cheesy crust.

Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes. After this time, carefully remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and has turned a lovely golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes to set. Just before serving, garnish with fresh basil leaves and drizzle a little olive oil over the top for added flavor.
