8 slices of hearty sourdough bread

1 cup fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced into 1/4 inch rounds

1 cup fresh basil leaves, stems discarded

1 large ripe tomato, sliced into thick rounds

1/2 cup balsamic glaze, plus extra for drizzling

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Optional: 1 ripe avocado, sliced

Prep the Ingredients: Begin by washing the tomato, basil leaves, and avocado (if using). Slice the tomato and mozzarella into rounds and the avocado into thin slices. Set aside all the prepared ingredients for easy assembly.

    Assemble the Sandwich: On a clean cutting board or plate, lay out 4 slices of sourdough bread. Begin layering by placing a generous handful of fresh basil leaves on each slice, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese and thick tomato slices.
