Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or ground turkey

1 cup herbed breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

3 cloves fresh garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

2 cups marinara sauce, store-bought or homemade

1 loaf of French baguette or ciabatta

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened at room temperature

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to preheat at 375°F (190°C).

Make the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef (or turkey), herbed breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, large egg, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes (if you're using them), and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until they are well integrated. Shape the mixture into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter and arrange them evenly on a baking sheet.

Bake the Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the meatballs for 20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and golden brown. If they require a little more time, give them an additional 5 minutes.

Prepare the Garlic Bread: While the meatballs are baking, take your baguette or ciabatta and carefully slice it in half lengthwise. In a small bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter with the finely chopped parsley and a pinch of salt. Use a spatula or knife to spread this garlic butter mixture evenly over both halves of the bread.

Toast the Bread: Arrange the garlic bread on a baking sheet and toast in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges turn golden and crispy. Once toasted, remove from the oven and set aside.

Assemble the Bake: In a 9x13-inch baking dish, pour half of the marinara sauce evenly across the bottom. Carefully place the baked meatballs on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs, ensuring they are well-covered. Finally, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously on top.

Bake the Entire Dish: Return the assembled dish to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and has formed a light golden crust.

Serve: Once baked to perfection, slice the toasted garlic bread into generous portions and serve it alongside the warm meatball bake. For an extra touch, garnish with additional fresh parsley for color and flavor if desired.
