Savory Beef and Veggie Stir-Fry with Rice

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips

1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into strips

1 cup broccoli florets

1 medium carrot, cut into julienne strips

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece ginger, minced

2 green onions, finely chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups cooked jasmine rice

Sesame seeds for garnish

Marinate the Beef: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Stir well to ensure all the beef is evenly coated. Allow the mixture to marinate for at least 15 minutes at room temperature, which will help enhance the flavors of the beef.

    Prepare the Vegetables: While the beef is marinating, thoroughly wash and chop all the vegetables as mentioned. Set them aside in a bowl for easy access during cooking.

      Heat the Oil: In a large non-stick skillet or wok, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it begins to shimmer. This indicates that the oil is hot enough for cooking.

        Stir-Fry the Beef: Carefully add the marinated beef to the hot skillet, spreading it out in a single layer. Allow it to sear for about 1-2 minutes without stirring, as this helps to develop a beautiful crust. After searing, stir-fry the beef for an additional 3-4 minutes until it is browned and just cooked through. Once done, remove the beef from the skillet and transfer it to a plate.

          Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté these aromatics for approximately 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to let them burn. Next, add the sliced bell peppers, broccoli florets, and julienned carrots. Stir-fry for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables reach a tender-crisp texture.

            Combine: Return the previously cooked beef to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed, then toss in the chopped green onions.

              Serve: To plate, spoon the savory beef and vegetable stir-fry generously over a bed of fluffy jasmine rice. For an added touch of flavor and presentation, sprinkle sesame seeds on top and garnish with extra green onions if desired.
