Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 cup onion, finely chopped

1 cup green bell pepper, diced

1 can (15 oz) sloppy joe sauce

2 cups cooked pasta (elbow macaroni or rotini recommended)

1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup frozen peas (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures that the casserole cooks evenly.

Cook the Meat: In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef, chopped onion, and diced green bell pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender. Make sure to drain any excess grease from the skillet to keep the dish from being too oily.

Add Flavor: Stir in the sloppy joe sauce along with the garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt. If you're using frozen peas, add them now. Let the mixture simmer for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is heated through and well combined.

Combine with Pasta: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the sloppy joe mixture. Mix well to ensure the pasta is evenly coated with the flavorful sauce.

Layer the Casserole: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter. Spoon half of the pasta mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the top. Layer the remaining pasta mixture and finish by topping with the rest of the cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to rest for about 5 minutes. This will make it easier to serve. Before plating, garnish with freshly chopped parsley to add a touch of color and freshness. Enjoy your delicious Sloppy Joe Casserole!
