Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 small onion, finely diced

1 green bell pepper, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your choice of cheese)

1 cup pasta (elbow macaroni, shells, or your favorite shape)

2 cups chicken or beef broth

Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large skillet, bring the chicken or beef broth to a rapid boil over medium-high heat. Add the pasta to the boiling broth and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Once done, drain the pasta and set it aside.

Brown the Meat: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it's browned and cooked through—about 5-7 minutes. If there's excess fat, carefully drain it from the skillet.

Sauté Vegetables: Add the finely diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the browned meat. Stir and cook for approximately 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and fragrant.

Add the Sauces: Incorporate the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper into the skillet. Mix everything thoroughly and let it simmer for about 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.

Combine: Once the sauce is well blended, add the cooked pasta directly into the skillet. Stir gently, ensuring the pasta is thoroughly coated in the delicious sloppy joe sauce.

Cheesy Finish: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and perfectly gooey.

Serve: Once the cheese has melted, remove the skillet from heat. Garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color, and serve hot. Enjoy the delightful flavors of your Cheesy Sloppy Joe Skillet!
